Introduction:
This recipe has been passed down through generations in our family, originating from our great-grandparents, down to our parents who immigrated from Taiwan to the United States in search of a better life. They brought with them their love of cooking and the tradition of making dumplings from scratch for family gatherings and special occasions.
Our parents, who grew up in Taiwan, were taught the recipe and continued the tradition of making dumplings for family gatherings. As kids, we would watch in awe as they skillfully wrapped the filling in the thin wrappers, creating perfect little pockets of deliciousness.
Now, as adults, we carry on the tradition and make these dumplings with our own families. We've added a twist by incorporating Yanmi Kitchen Sauce's (Hot Spicy) Sauce, which gives the dumplings an extra kick of flavor and heat.
We hope that this recipe not only brings you joy and deliciousness, but also a sense of connection to our family's heritage and traditions. Enjoy!
Pork and Vegetable Dumplings Recipe |
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground pork
- 2 cups finely shredded Napa cabbage
- 1 cup finely chopped shiitake mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 40-50 round dumpling wrappers
- Water for sealing dumplings
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, Napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, green onions, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- To assemble the dumplings, place a spoonful of filling in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold the wrapper in half to enclose the filling. Press the edges together to seal the dumpling, making sure there are no air pockets. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
- To cook the dumplings, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the dumplings to the pot and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until they float to the surface and the filling is cooked through.
- If you would like to create pan-fried dumplings. Heat a non-stick pan on medium-high heat and add one table spoon of cooking oil. Once heated place the drained dumplings from the pot of water onto the pan. Cook until a golden brown crust is formed, turn to evenly cook.
- Serve the dumplings hot with Yanmi Kitchen Sauce's (Hot Spicy) Sauce on the side for dipping.
Optional: For an extra kick of heat, drizzle some of Yanmi Kitchen Sauce's (Hot Spicy) Sauce on top of the dumplings before serving.
